A Story About Resilience and Design

Hi, I’m Sara - a UI/UX designer and visual storyteller based in Providence, Rhode Island. I studied Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design, where I learned to see design as a language for empathy, clarity, and imagination. My career began in education, first as Design-Think Manager at the Highlander Institute and later as an Admissions Officer at RISD. Those early experiences taught me how to simplify complexity and craft experiences that make people feel seen and supported.

Over the past decade, I’ve worked across UX and visual design, leading digital initiatives at Infosys Digital/WONGDOODY and designing intuitive, cohesive experiences for AAA Northeast. My background in visual design and publishing gives me a strong sense of composition, rhythm, and hierarchy. I see these as the building blocks of clear and memorable interfaces. I love translating abstract ideas into visuals that feel effortless to use and emotionally resonant.

I’m also a two-time leukemia survivor, which reshaped how I approach both life and design. Recovery gave me perspective on accessibility, patience, and what it means to design with care. I’m drawn to projects that have real human impact… work that helps people connect, navigate, and belong.

When I’m not designing, you’ll find me in my studio experimenting with fiber art, illustrating, or hanging out with my cat, Gina. Whether I’m working on a screen or with my hands, I’m guided by the same goal: to make something thoughtful, grounded, and meaningful.
